W.A.G.s Retired Police Dogs Trust to benefit from Cardwave’s August charity donation

10th August 2016

Local charity W.A.G.s Retired Police Dogs Trust will benefit from Cardwave’s £100 donation this month. The charity was chosen by Nathan Barter, Production Assistant, who commented: “When I worked for Wiltshire Police, I saw how vital police handlers and their dogs are, and dogs so often retire young due to injury. Usually these dogs would then be up for adoption for a suitable home, but the handlers tend to take them on due to the bond they have already. These dogs rack up very high vet bills due to injuries from their work, and no bills are paid for by the police forces when they’re retired”.

There are over 2500 police dogs employed across the UK, and insurance cover is not currently available for larger breeds. W.A.G.s was set up to help retired dogs from the Wiltshire, Avon and Somerset, and Gloucester police forces, and provides support in emergency situations where a large bill may mean a decision is made about the dog’s future.
