SD Memory Card Market to Exceed US$8.9 Billion in 2022

1st May 2018

Rising demand for smartphones in developing regions is expected to create an opportunity for microSD memory card manufacturers. However, the presence of counterfeit SD memory cards in the market with inaccurate capacities is emerging as a key challenge in the global SD memory card market.

A report by Persistence Market Research indicates that the global market for SD memory card is likely to witness modest growth during the forecast period 2017-2022. By 2022’s end, the global SD memory card market is estimated to surpass US$ 8.9 billion in revenue. SD memory cards are anticipated to find the largest application in mobile phones. In addition, 32GB SD memory cards are expected to be the most preferred during 2017-2022, surpassing US$ 1.9 billion revenue by 2022’s end. SD memory cards with 16GB storage capacity are also likely to witness growth in the coming years.  Read the full report here

If you want to be assured of using the right quality and type of SD card for your project, without the risk of purchasing counterfeit cards get in touch with Cardwave Services Ltd. When selecting a SD Card, memory capacity is the first of numerous factors requiring consideration. A consumer grade product may be suitable, but you may need something far more robust in the form of an industrial, automotive or even a bespoke card with a fixed BOM.

Dependent on the application, you may have certain read or write speed requirements or need the card to operate in a harsh physical environment or in extreme temperatures. Many users fall into the trap of thinking that the higher the Speed Class, the better the card, but there are many more factors to consider, especially as the host device would need to support the speed capabilities of the card in the first place.

SD Cards are designed to meet the rigours of every application, and we can guide you through the selection and qualification process to ensure you get the optimum product to meet your project demands.
