Project Management

At Cardwave, we are fully aware of the issues clients face but which they often rarely understand themselves. To avoid the potential pitfalls, we are able to co-ordinate all the contributing elements for a project. Sometimes this involves working with those suppliers nominated by our clients and, in turn, we are able to meet both the product specification, delivery and quality commitments.

More often than not however, our clients rely on our expertise to take over the management of an entire project. This strategy means we can take pressure off our clients who don’t always have the time, knowledge, contacts or the technology specific expertise to do the job. Instead, the client is able to focus on the end result.

Supply chain management

Our business is not just international, it is truly global. We have established suppliers and partners in all the developed territories and are actively supporting our clients as they move into developing countries, i.e. the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China).

Whether you need total control on parts management, fixed bill of materials or simply an organisation that understands how to import and export product and all the compliance controls that go with it, Cardwave understands the challenges and can support you accordingly.

Quality management

We have been ISO9001 certified since July 2007. This prestigious quality management award is a fundamental part of how any business should operate since the accreditation controls our processes and also measures quality.

All of our operations are controlled under ISO 9001:2008 and we will soon complete accreditation to ISO 14000. We support our clients with any industry specific systems as required, for example we have experience of working to TS16949 with our automotive customers.

Our process of continual improvement is supported with our use of 6 Sigma and FMEA methodologies to analyse processes and procedures as well as new projects and product development. We also use Lean / Kaizen principals where appropriate to streamline systems.

Cardwave has always recognised the need for a high level of control and security when considering both our own and our customer’s products and data. As part of our continual improvement program Cardwave will be implementing the ISO 27000 Information Security standard. This will enable us to provide evidence of control and security at the highest levels of our complete facility.

Content value

Content owners care passionately about their content. Sometimes the spotlight is focused on the memory card, which is perceived to be a higher value product. This is not always true, we understand that your content is always a high value product so it needs to be managed properly. Demonstrating to our clients that we’re much more than a duplication house, and not just loading a few cards or drives is important. Once they’ve been to our facility, seen what we do and how we do it, our clients are happy. Your content is safe with Cardwave.

Product Evolution

Product evolution can mean many things, but at Cardwave it’s all about managing the life cycle of a product.

Technology today is constantly changing at a phenomenal pace. As new devices arrive on the market, memory cards evolve and the technology inside them changes, so it is vital we understand how a card works with a particular system or host.

By keeping pace with innovation we are able to identify key performance requirements, so when a
change happens, we can plan for the eventuality and support the client appropriately.

Hama GmbH

Hama GmbH is one of the world’s leading consumer electronics accessories suppliers, with their products distributed throughout the world in every continent. Cardwave were approached with an urgent requirement to re-program 5,600 x 16GB USB flash drives.

The content on the USB was a 7GB installation file for a password-protected software application used by one of the largest energy companies in Germany. The drives had already been programmed at source in the Far East, but they had experienced a 40% failure rate with the application failing to install, prompting the decision to re-program the entire batch. Hama needed to collate the drives locally at their administration and logistics headquarters in Monheim, Germany, before shipping them to Cardwave in two separate deliveries.

On receiving the drives, we first had to remove and responsibly dispose of the existing retail packaging. On testing the first batch of drives, we found the data sizes and creation dates were not consistent, suggesting the high failure rate was most likely due to the original programming methods rather than any quality issues with the drives themselves.

We created a master drive and programmed an initial 50 drives from that master, adopting a 100% bit-by-bit replication process to ensure each drive was identical. These were then sent direct to the client for their own in-house testing which achieved a 100% pass rate. On receiving sign-off from...
